What Causes A Lump On The Neck?

I have recently noticed a roundish "mass" in mmy neck area on the right side, just to the right of my throat. it is cold/flu season here but other than an occasionally runny nose which I think is due to allergies, I have no other systoms. What could that be? Just had my yearly physical a few weeks ago; began noticing this shortly thereafter. Hate to go back to the doctor for nothing if it is allergy related, but curious as to what it could be.
