What Causes A Missed Period Despite A Negative UPT?

I m late on my periods this time. And generally my cycle is of 24-25 days. The last I got my periods was on 21st July, 2017. So according to my cycle I was supposed to get it till 15th August. But haven t got it yet. Me and my husband had intercourse without protection on 1st August, so checked for pregnancy test on 17th August the result came negative. What might be the problem?

menstrual cycle depends on hormonal changes in terms female body. it is mainly because of the withdrawal of the hormone progesterone that menses start. at times certain drugs like steroids can delay the menses.. stress or anxiety that alters the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis thereby altering the estrogen and progesterone levels in female body can also delay menses.
