What Causes A Missed Period With Negative Pregnancy Test?

I had unprotected sex about 5 months ago and the month after i didnt get a period. the next month however i did get my period but it was only 2 days long and very light when it is usually 5 days long and very heavy. after that i didnt get my period for 2 months in a row. i took a pregnancy test and it was negative. but i have never missed my period before. could i be pregnant?
