What Causes A Missed Period?

Hi, I have issues with irregular periods and so doctor prescribed taking meprate for 5 days (morning and night); its exactly 10th day today after completing the tabs, and I have not got my periods yet; what could be the reason? do I need to wait for few more days?
Please help!
