What Causes A Painful Lump On The Rib Cage?

40/m i have had pain on rib area, slightly to the left of the body, same height as diaphragm. Its been ongoing for 2 weeks from the time i noticed it. today i raised my hands over my head and rubbed my fingers over that area and it felt like a vertical 6-8 inch lump about as thick as a earth worm, slightly painful. if i apply pressure to the skin and pull away from lump at either end it pulls the skin with it causing what looks like a thin indent on the surface of the skin. no lumps have been found anywhere else on my body as of today.
