Hello,
Prolonged menstrual period commonly occurs if you are sexually active and are on contraceptive method, device, pills, implants, etc. Use of any contraceptive device commonly causes changes in the hormone level and hence causes
irregular periods, heavy periods, scanty periods, no periods, etc. The body adjusts in 3-5 months when the symptoms may reduce.
Prolonged periods may also be due to certain medical conditions like
cervical polyp, fibroids, endometriosis, etc.
Other conditions may be rough sex, tear or cuts in the vagina due to rubbing without lubrication, uterine / vaginal infections, bleeding disorders, stress, post abortion, post miscarriage,
excessive weight loss,
thyroid dysfunction, dysfunctional bleeding, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynecologist. Get required blood works, tests, investigations and imaging tests done at the earliest so that the treatment can be started at the earliest. Stay away from addictions if any, Take home made food rich in iron, minerals and protein.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
