My 14 year old son has a red circular flat patch on his armpit. It's just a little itchy and he's had it for over a week. I told him to was wash well and not wear deodorant which he has done but it hasn't gone away. He has no other patches anywhere else. Regards, Lina
I would keep a possibility of Tinea corporis/fungal infection. Axillary folds trap sweat and moisture and thus provide an ideal environment for the fungus to proliferate.
Fungal infection presents as a red scaly patch, with central clearing and peripheral extension. There is variable scaling and itching over the patch.
I would suggest a KOH scraping from the scale to confirm the diagnosis
I would suggest you to use an OTC antifungal e.g clotrimazole cream, twice daily for 4-6 weeks
An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10mg once daily would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
