What Causes A Red Dot In Upper Gastric Area On Endoscopy?

2 mos ago I had endoscopy for sudden vomiting blood & results showed a small clot which was washed away & a red dot in upper gastric area. PPI s were prescribed for 1 mo & I felt fine but now I am having nausea every day when my stomach is empty. Could the red dot be an ulcer ?

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

The red spot with an overlying clot could be an ulcer. I would advise you to get a repeat upper GI endoscopy done to see if the ulcer has healed.

Meanwhile you can take omeprazole for the recurrence of symptoms. You also need to avoid NSAID (painkiller) medications.

I hope that answers your question.

General Surgeon Dr. Grzegorz Stanko's  Response
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Its hard to tell not being able to see it. There should be samples collected from the red dot during the endoscopy. It needs to be done to rule stomach cancer out.
As your symptoms can be caused by peptic ulcer, you should consult gastrologist. Gastroscopy should be done once again to see your stomach condition.
Abdominal ultrasound for possible gallstones should be also done.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
