What Causes A Small Lump On The Back Of Toddler?

I noticed a small lump on the back on my 4 yr old grandson s neck last night. It wasn t there before. It s about the size of a dime, formed yet movable when you touch it. His other said one had appeared suddenly and disappeared before. I also saw one appear o nthe back of my 6 yr old son s neck, right side by the hair line a few weeks ago and it also disappeared. What is it and what causes it?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Is there any pain or tenderness over there? Probably this is an enlarged lymph node, which is very common in children. If not progressively enlarging and no pain/tenderness, nothing to worry.

I used to evaluate further only if the nodes are >1cm in diameter, there is recurring fever/weight loss/poor appetite or above features are present. See your pediatrician if any of the above features are present.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
