Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I take care of an elderly woman that developed an awful bruise on her arm. She doesn't recall hitting her arm. It's about 3 inches long and an inch or so wide . Dark purple w a white small center. We r curious what any causes may be. She has systematic lupus and is 74.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Sudden bruise appearance in an elderly could be probably due to inscet bite and skin reaction following it. Kindly do the following to overcome it. 1. Clean the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily. 2. Apply Neomycin with Hydrocortisone cream over the affected area twice daily. 3. Take Tablet.Loratidine once a day for 5 days. Gradually, the bruise should subside and be back to normal. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr. Ashakiran.S. MBBS., MD.
