What Causes A Twitching Sensation In The Body While On Haldol And Morphine?
My elderly mother is in decline and hospice has been called in. She has moderate dimension and was taking Trazadone and mirtazapine successfully. She developed bagel ... While sitting on the toilet. They took her off Those meds and put her on Haldol and morphine. They are giving her moraphine 5mg very hour as needed and Haldol .She is very restless keeps saying no ,twitching, can t form a sentence. Very out of it. What can we give her to just help her sleep.
I can understand your concern. Haldol is Haloperidol and is a first generation antipsychotic drug. The drug could lead to acute onset restlessness and akathisia in a lot of individuals. This could be the reason of twitching and restlessness she is having. Morphine has been probably given to her for relief for pain.
If she is confused and is not oriented to time, place and person then she could be in delirium and this can also result in irrelevant talks, confusion and twitching. Also get her serum electrolytes, blood sugar levels checked to rule out any metabolic issues.
Thanks and Take care
