Hi. I am a black male and i am gay. And i was wondering if you can tell me what is wrong. I have a white film over my tongue and it has been there for about a week. There is no pain or discomfort inside of my mouth but i am very worried and would like to know what it is
As per your complain a white film over the tongue can be most commonly due to fungal infection in mouth causing Oral Thrush. It represents as cheesy white patches over the tongue and can occur due to a number of common causes like intake of antibiotics and steroids,immuno-compromised condition like Diabetes, cancer,HIV, chemo and radio therapy, dry mouth etc.. You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and in case of thrush he /she can adise you to take anti-fungal mouthwash like Nystatin mouthwash, clotrimazole lozenges and taking probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic. Drink plenty of water to prevent dry mouth.. Avoid antimicrobial mouthwash..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
