What Causes Abdominal Cramping, Bloody Diarrhea And Bloating?

I had a stool test and the lab results shows positive for Lactoferrin. I had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about a year and a half ago, treated with Aasacol. I recently tested positive for Cryptosporidium and was treated. This test did not show positive for the cryptosporidium. I am experiencing severe abdominal cramping, bloody diarrhea, and bloating. My current gastroenterologist has done little to help other than double my dosage of aasacol to 2 pills 3 times a day. This condition is causing me to miss work and I cannot function as normal, I always need to be near a restroom. What would you recommend I do?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of abdominal cramping, bloody diarrhea and bloating after being diagnosed as ulcerative colitisand being treated with Aasacol. You got recently diagnosed with Cryptosporidium and now negative.
Now there is increased symptoms so much so that you have to be near the restroom hence missing the work. The Gastroenterologist has already increased the dose of Aasacol to TDS.
I would recommend you to have a second opinion, repeat the investigations like stool for 3 consecutive days, colonoscopy and biopsy to re-confirm the diagnosis and to see if there is any other significant problem that has increased your problems and treat accordingly.
Modulation of the diet and if necessary to have admission to the hospital for parenteral therapy may be needed.
I can understand the disability you are having. A proper management under the guidance of the staff is a necessity.
