What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Vomiting Black Stuff?

Hi I have had severe abdominal cramps for last 5 days- buscopan is not strong enough to ease. On the 1st night I vomited black stuff- mainly liquid but few little lumps but then seemed to improve dramatically and this came after a 10K run. Today (day 5) after feeling on the whole a lot better I have just vomited a small amount and again black in colour and again, after a 10K run. Prior to illness I spent 6 days in Vietnam-any ideas as unable/slightly scared to get docs appointment...?

Hi there

The black stuff you are vomiting is possibly blood. Blood when mixed with acid forms acid haematin which is black in colour. It is certainly something that requires early medical attention. Buscopan will not help in stopping the bleeding.

It is possible that you may have a parasitic infection from visiting Vietnam. However , you do need to provide more information. Have you had duodenal or gastric ulcers before? Do you consume alcohol?

Either way , I would suggest you seek a consult with a physician(gastroenterologist) or a general surgeon immediately.
