Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of Diverticulitis which was proved on CT scan and treated with Flagyl and Cipro about a month ago.
The pain in the side has gone but has remained below the belly button. Repeat CT scan shows no active diverticulitis and the Doctor has said about IBS.
My thoughts:
You can have both the things.
Diverticulitis is inflammation of the diverticuli which are out-pouching of the colon and it is not that they are inflamed all the time. It is called diverticulitis only if they are inflamed.
You can have IBS as you are symptom free in between.
I would advise you the following in such a situation.
Also go for the tests of stool and blood and urine to find any other infection or problems.
Colonoscopy helps further for the diagnosis.
Get a proper treatment of IBS and if you remain pain-free, the treatment is underway and correct.
I find this answer helpful
