What Causes Abdominal Pain And Blood In Stool?

My 12 year old daugther has been hurting in her stomach for 2 days. She had not had a bowel movement, so I gave her 1 Senakot tablet. When she finally went the toilet was full of bright red blood and black tarry stool. What should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms can be due to enterocolitis infection.

For that broad spectrum antibiotic course and antacid like pantoprazole can be prescribed.

Cooked oatmeal help in soothing stomach.

Avoid gastric irritants like excess spicy foods, stress, smoking, excess tea etc.

The mentioned tablet can lead to rectal irritation and so bleeding.

So I suggest you to consult your physician or surgeon for local examination and further work up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
