What Causes Abdominal Pain, Dryness Of Skin And Increased Sensitivity To Cold?

I am an 18 year old woman that just started taking Ortho Tri Cyclen almost 2 months ago, because I was having a lot of trouble with my cycle being regular. I have been experiencing lower abdominal pain at times. Usually bothing too serious, most of the time it just feels like a dull or achy pain, or like pressure is being applied. I have also been feeling tired a lot lately, my skin is dry even when I use lotion daily, and I have an increased sensitivity to cold. I have been previously diagnosed with hypothyroidism but now I am concerned that it is returning. What concernes me the most though, is that I have read that taking both oral contraceptives and a form of thyroid replacement therapy can cause the drugs to interfere with one another. What should I do?

Hi,
Your symptoms suggest a possible hypothyroid effect. The abdominal pain is unrelated. You need not worry about drug interaction if you need to take both thyroxine supplement and the pill. Thyroxine is taken on empty stomach in the morning and food is taken not earlier than half-one hour after intake of medication. The oral pill, on the other hand, is taken at night. Thus, both the medications remain effective. Please get a clinical assessment to diagnose the cause of the pain. Hope your query has been answered. Take care.
