What Causes Abnormal Periods Inspite Of Negative Urine Test?

I went to the doctor because I was having pregnancy symptoms. I received a negative urine test but was told it may be too early to tell for sure. I have my period now but it is abnormal. I went to the doctor a week and a half ago. Could I be pregnant?
