What Causes Allergy To Rice Flour?

Hi, I apparently have an allergy to rice flour, but not rice since I eat it weekly. Every time I consume rice flour my tongue and lips swell a little and get tingly and numb. My throat closed a little in the first reaction as well. How can it be that I'm only allergic to the flour, not the rice or any other flour? I've only had it in pizza and the only allergy like this that I have is to rats.

Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query.
You are not allergic to rice, but in the process of making rice flour something else is being added to improve the colour or quality of the powder. You are allergic to this foreign agent and the reactions you get are due to this and not rice.
To prove this, you can powder some rice in your kitchen machine at home and use this rice powder and you will not have any reaction.
I shall be happy to answer any further query.
Take care
Dr. Noble Zachariah
