What Causes Alpha 1 Anitripsyn Defficiiency In Children?

Hi! My son is 11 and was diagnosed with Alpha 1 Anitripsyn Defficiency 5 yrs ago. He has portal hypertension. We now found out this past Fri. that his blood is too thin. What could be the cause of this if he isn t on blood thinners? I am very concerned.

Hi
your saying that your son is diagnosed with alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency & having portal hypertension .it is associated with liver involvement & liver dysfunction causing decreased synthesis of blood clotting factors..that is the reason of blood thinng even though not taking blood thinners.consult hematologist regarding further management.
Thank you
