What Causes An Increase In The White Blood Cells?

HI YA

i am 29 weeks pregnant and have rencently had my last midwife appmt.



Everything is normal except my white blood cells were high (I have had a cold and sickness over the last month) plus I have trace sugar in my urine - should i be concerned?

Hi,

Increased white blood cells are seen when there is an inflammation or infection. As you have cold, it could be that showing up on the cell count. What type of cells are increased? Lymphocytes or Neutrophils?
Also the normal value of white cell count is changed from 11,000 to 14,000 in pregnancy, so hope this is kept in mind while reading the report. If your count is less than 14,000 it would be considered normal.
The trace of sugar in urine needs to be evaluated, it could be a sign of gestational diabetes.
kindly get a 75 gm Oral glucose tolerance test done.
