What Causes An Injured Knee To Remain Hard And Immobile After A Month?

My age is 59. HHeight is 5'9". Weight is 190 lbs.

I ran into a parked van as I came around a blind corner. I did not even see the van and road right into it as fast as I could. I did not know it was there. I just felt an impact and fell to ground. I broke both my knee bones and fractured three vertibrae, and broke my nose, and bit my tongue.

My question is that my left knee, which was injured the most, is after one month still as hard as a rock over the knee. The skin does not move, or it is not loose. The knee is hard and sticks up higher than my right one. Coloring is same as surrounding skin and there is no pain. Was given blood thinners in the hospital. I see the doctor tomorrow one month after accident. My patellas were both fractered but did not completely separate so the doctor is going to let them grow back together. Thanks Dan Coublucq.
