What Causes An Uncomfortable Feeling During Intercourse?

My girlfriend had her period recently and she had figured she was done with it for the month. So today we went to have intercourse, she said it felt weird a little bit but nothing bad. Then after she bleed a little bit. We are both wondering if this is because she had her period later then she usually does and if she might of been more sensitive than usuall. Please have an answer.
