What Causes Ankle Swelling In An Elderly Person?

I woke up with slight swelling on the top of my foot. Now my ankle and toes are also swollen and stiff. Ther does not appear to be any discoloration of the tissue and temperature seems normal. It has been about 8 hours since the onset of symptoms. I am 60 years old, have controlled high blood pressure. Should I be concerned I may have a blood clot?

dear
Thanks for writing HCM
First of all please be assured that there is no association between such swelling and blood clot.
Normally patients with anti hypertensives or BP medicines have pedal edema or swelling in ankle which is quite normal.
More over let us also have a uric acid done as well for the foot and toe swelling.
Please be calm , we can have a warm water fomentation of foot in morning. However for such prolonged symtoms we need to investigate and get a consultation.
hope this helps
most welcome for further queries.
