What Causes Arms, Shoulders, Back Itching With Scabbing During A Pregnancy?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and have had this on going itching on my upper arms, shoulders/shoulder blades, and upper back for about 3 weeks now. At first there was no sign of rash or bumps....but this last week or so I get bumps that turn into scabs due to itching. Its weird because it doesn t really seem to bug me as much as it does at night. I ve asked my OBGYN and he said it s just a pregnancy thing...but I m getting kind of worried if it might be contagious because I m going to have a new born here in a week or so. Any suggestions.?
