My son is 4 years old and has 21mm ASD. They tried to repair it with septal occluder and were unsuccessful. They said we needed open heart surgery. When we went to consult he said it was an elective surgery to repair the ASD. They did mentioned right sided heart dilation. I don t want to put him through this but my husband is insisting we do. What are our options? Should we proceed with the surgery due to future complications down the road?
Hi thank you for trusting HCM I read your query and understand your concern Unfortunately even you have doubts for the surgery it is the only permanent treatment to treat your child You should discuss your surgeon about the right time to decide treatment but surgery should be undertaken Hope I have been of help Please feel free to ask further questions or ask for any doubts Regards Dr Eris Ranxha Neurologist
