Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has severe back pain and it hurts more when he breathes in deeply. The back pain is from the center of his back and out towards the right side. This started today at 2 in the morning, and has gotten worse. All of a sudden he will get a bad spasm and Ibuprofen is not helping, also tried the heating pad. What s causing this and do we need to go to an ER?
Hi, sorry to hear about your husband's condition. Pain at the center of back radiating towards right side suggests symptoms either related to gastro intestinal tract or gall bladder or cardiac origin. Is the pain pricking in nature? If the pain is related to gastro-intestinal tract or gall bladder, pain will not reduce with Ibuprofen, rather it will worsen the condition. Giving antacid with pain reliever like aspirin might reduce the pain. However, it is better to rule out any cardiac or gall bladder pathology. Kindly take him to ER or visit your local doctor. Hope he gets well soon. Thank you
