What Causes Bacterial Infection In An 89-year-old Woman?

My mother is 89 years old and resides in a nursing facility.. she moved there -3- weeks ago, and had taken a turn for the worse. The nursing facility did some testing, and the results came back that the bacterial infection she has, she has had for some time, witch means she contracted it while she was at home... What could have possibly caused the infection?

Hello and thank you for the question,
It depends upon where the bacterial infection is located. Urinary tract infections are common in the elderly and are often due to not urinating enough or not drinking enough fluids.
Pneumonia is also common in the elderly and this is often from exposure to sick people or not taking deep breaths frequently enough.
If you tell us what sort of bacterial infection she has we may be able to help you more.
Regards
