I am a RN and never have had a headache in my life however, 5 day ago, started with bitemporal headache that has now lead to 4 days of right cheek and right eye numbness/paresthesias. No visual changes noted, able to open/close my eyes and have full movement of my facial muscles but the numbness continues and is getting painful. My right eye burns and is watery and I feel my face is swollen though visually its intact. ANy suggestions??
Regarding your concern, your symptoms could be related to tension type headache.
A temporal arteritis can not be excluded either (although the pain characteristics are not typical of this disorder).
I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a careful neurological exam and performing some tests:
- a brain MRI - complete blood count - PCR and sedimentation rate for inflammation.
If all these tests result normal, the most probable cause of your symptoms would remain tension type headache. In such case there is nothing to worry about.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.
Hope to have been helpful!
Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
