What Causes Black Blue Marks And Swelling Of Foot Post An Injury?
Hematoma below left buttocks on side of leg fell 02/10/16 very hard on piece of wood. went to ER nothing broken but black blue spread little more towards foot, been iceing since Wed. now want to try Epson salt baths still swollen. Dr appt. next Thursday
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that due to traumatic injury caused due to getting hurt by banging with hard wood has led to trauma to small superficial blood vessels leading to spillage of blood into the soft tissues leading to hematoma formation and bruising.. The bruising can spread downwards to legs due to gravity action leading to downward flowing of blood.. Swelling seems to be due to accumulation of blood, inflammatory fluids and inflamed soft tissues.. As there is no fracture you need not to worry as the swelling and bruising will subside gradually.. You should do cool and warm compresses alternatively over the swelling.. Apply Heparin gel as it helps in fading bruising faster.. You can apply analgesic and muscle relaxant gels.. Elevate your leg while lying down.. Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
