What Causes Black Patches On The Scalp While On Cancer Treatment?

My mother has breast and lung cancer ...stage 4. She is currently on hospice . We’ve noticed her head is covered in black patches . Her hair is thin so we would’ve noticed them before. They’ve come about over the last two weeks. Any idea what it could be ?

Hello,

That is because of hyperpigmentation following use of Anthracycline as a part of chemotherapy is one possible explanation, and the other thing is because of dying hair follicles we usually see patients losing hair and get those black patches.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
