What Causes Black Stools?

8 days ago, my friends 4 year old had his tonsils out. 3 days later he had, what I would call for him, normal looking stools. Last night and twice today he had nearly overflowing black, runny stools. Is this digested blood and is the amount a concern?

He might be having infective diarrhea but the colour of the stool is a bit of concern. As u have stated that it was black, black tarry stools suggest upper GI bleed but it is not likely with the history you have provided. So start him with Tab. Ciprofloxacin 1+1 for 5 days and Stool RE.
