What Causes Blacked Skin Around Eyes?

Hello doctor For the past few days I am noticing blackend skin around my eyes and down to my cheeks. It is not very prominent but I can see it by a close observation. It resembles black spots on the faces of some middle aged people that I know caused by sun burn but mine are not that bad. I am scared that my spots too will grow worse like theirs but I am not sure if its the same thing. I swim 5 days a week at 6pm and I do not go out in the sun that much. Can you please tell me what it is? And possible remedy?

Dermatologist 's  Response
The possible diagnosis of the condition based on the description of the lesions is melasma which is a pigmentory disorder which is aggrevated by sun exposure and is also due to hormones. You need to apply a sunscreen at least 30 minutes before sun exposure and at 9 am noon and 3 pm. Topical depigmenting agents like kojic acid and arbutin can be applied over the affected area .Oral anti oxidants can also be used. Consult your dermatologist regarding the above mentioned therapy. Regards
