My girlfriend who is a healthy 41 years old has resume having sex after being nonactive for more then 5 years, and she has been bleeding lightly after intercourse. Her last papsmere was normal in Feb of this year. She is not dry during intercourse. Just wondering what might be the cause of this issue?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
The bleeding after an intercourse is may be due to infection such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), sexually transmitted infection (STI), vaginal dryness, damage to the vagina by friction during sex, cervical polyps and in rare instances bleeding after sex can be a sign of cervical or vaginal cancer.
I would suggest you to undergo pelvic examination and looking at the cervix with a speculum. This will helps to identify the anatomy and physiology of the pelvis. Thank you.
