What Causes Bleeding After Intercourse?

I am 36 yr old mother of two. Never had this problem before but after intercourse with my husband last night we realized there was a fair amount of blood on the sheets. I thought I must be getting ready to start menstrating, but I looked on calendar and I am still 2 weeks from that. I have never had an abnormal pap in the past. Should I be worried?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Bleeding after or during menstruation needs to be investigated.
The common causes of bleeding during intercourse are:
1. Cervical lesions- inflammation, erosion, ectropion, malignancy
2. Endometrial lesions- inflammation, hyperplasia, malignancy
3. Lesions of fallopian tubes and ovaries are less common cause of bleeding

You need to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment, examination of the genital tract and relevant investigations.
Treatment can be instituted after result of investigations.

Thanks and take care
