What Causes Bleeding After Intercourse?

Hi, I recently lost my virginity. During sex their was a lot of blood and I had to wear a pad overnight. By the next morning I was still bleeding but it was not heavy. It has been 5 days since I had sex and I am still spotting. It s not heavy to where I need to wear a pad but everytime I wipe when I use the bathroom I see blood. Is this normal?

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Bleeding during intercourse or spotting may be due to hymen rupture (mostly your case), rough sex, blunt trauma, vaginal infection or dryness (lack of lubrication), hormonal imbalance, endometriosis, cervical or uterine polyp etc. Most of time, this type of bleeding stops automatically within 3-5 days.

2) Use proper lubrication during sex and maintain genital hygiene. Medicine like Tranexamic acid can be taken to arrest bleeding temporarily.

3) Lastly, I suggest you to consult with gynecologist if bleeding continues. You may need to undergo one ultrasound scan to detect uterine or cervical pathology (if any). Maintain genital hygiene. Good luck.
