What Causes Bleeding After Sex?

I m 40yrs old and I m fixed so no way of being pregnant. I have experienced bleeding after sex. I don t hurt nor did I have rough sex. I thought maybe it was my period starting way to early. So I put on pad , but I did not bleed. So I gather it wasn t from my period.

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Mild to moderate bleeding during or after intercourse may be due to blunt trauma, vaginal infection or dryness (lack of lubrication), cervical or endometrial polyp, endometriosis etc. Most of time, this type of bleeding stops automatically within 3-5 days.

2) Use proper lubrication during sex and maintain genital hygiene. Medicine like Tranexamic acid can be taken for 3 days to arrest bleeding temporarily.

3) Lastly, I suggest you to consult with gynecologist if bleeding occurs quite often. One Trans Vaginal Ultrasound scan is advisable to detect uterine or cervical pathology (if any). Maintain genital hygiene. Good luck.
