Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
Many women have irregular bleeding after gynecologic surgery for multiple reasons. For one, your period can come early from the
stress on your body from the surgery itself. Secondly, if the surgery was laparoscopic (through a camera) one of the instruments that are typically used is placed in the
cervix to move your
uterus during the surgery (to make it easier to see the ovaries). There can be delayed bleeding from that instrument placement that is usually bright red.
But if your pain is increasing, and you continue to bleed, you should contact your surgeon and see if you can be seen for an examination. If your pain is severe (if you rate the pain on a scale from one to ten with ten being the worst pain possible and one being no pain as an 8 or higher) or if you have a
fever, feel dizzy, or have any
nausea or
vomiting, you should go to an emergency room if you cannot see your doctor right away because then we become concerned that you may be having a complication from the surgery.
So I would start by trying to contact your doctor and see if he/she can see you. Your surgeon is the best person to talk to as they know exactly what happened and may have a better explanation than what I have been able to provide without examining you.
I hope i was able to adequately able to answer your question today and that this information was helpful. Again, if your pain is severe, you bleed more and you cannot see your doctor, I would consider going to the hospital just to make sure there is nothing concerning going on.
Best wishes, and I hope you feel better,
Dr. Brown
