What Causes Bleeding From Eyes With Blood Shot Eye?

I woke up with my red eye bleeding; I think something, like a tiny piece of bark or leaf, might have flown into my eye yesterday while I was trimming my plants; however, I did not feel any pain, just a very slight discomfort ;this has happened in the past, and it has washed out; since it was not a big deal, I did not do anything. this morning I woke up with a blood shot eye; it is kind of going away, but I feel a slight headache, and a slight discomfort. I intend to all my eye doctor tomorrow; today is sunday should I be worried about it, perhaps go to pharmacy and purchase an eye wash; or should I leave it alone till tomorrow. thank you for your help
