What Causes Bleeding In The Ears After Using Antibiotics For Ear Infection?
My 13 year old daughter has had pusy draining ear infection for a month with a perforated tympanic membrane. She s had oral and ear drop antibiotics. The last few days she started bleeding from ears again. I took her to her pediatrician today and she was surprised to see a purple jelly like substance covering her membrane but with her ear tube inside it. I looked as well. It is very strange. Doctor prescribed more intense oral antibiotics and eardrop with antibiotics and steroid. We will give it two days and if it doesn t look better we will be admited. ENT appointment in three weeks. Pediatrician wants her seen sooner. Any ideas what this purple jelly substance could be?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of pus and blood coming out of the ear of your daughter of 13 years. Her Pediatrician says about purple jelly like substance in the ear with ear tubes inside it. This is most probably a granuloma or polyp formation due to body's over-response or can be an infection with typical bacteria that cause the thick pus but also causes bleeding such s beta hemolytic streptococci infection.
I would advise your Doctor to prescribe medicines active against such organisms and also give antihistamine, anti=inflammatory . Nothing much to worry as such as antibiotics take care of such problems well.
