General & Family Physician, Dr. Nizar Ali's Response
hello and welcome.. this condition is. called hematochezia..and mostly the bleeding is from small intestine, large intestine and rectum but in rare condition say 15% is from upper gastrointestinal tract as you said that the investigation are normal ..it points to the rare cause of the bleeding which are very common in old age.bleeding from mesenteric vessels and for its diagnosis mesenteric angiography is done to locate the site of bleeding... and then the surgical options are considered.as you sad that she is continuously bleeding and is in ICU so at the moment she is not suitable for surgery. once she is stable then the surgeons can think about the surgery BUT it will be a high risk surgery with little chanse of success so it's in to you what to decide... hope thus is the answer thanks bye.
