What Causes Blisters On Hands While On Treatment For Scabies?

Hello, I was diagnosed with scabies and have used malathion lotion three times over three weeks and washed all my bedding etc. After i applied the third application on the Wednesday and washing it off thursday, i gained blisters on my hands the following monday and my skin has gone very tingly all over. The blisters have completely gone and were only there for two days, i can not see burrows but i am worried as i have read the blisters can sometimes be the burrows themselves Do you know if this may be a reaction to the cream almost four days after application or is it likely reinfestation?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Welcome to health care magic.
I am Dr Alok Sinha, MD Psychiatry from India. I can understand your concern. I will try my best to answer your query.
I have carefully read your question and could understand that you have been suffering from scabies infestation.

Scabies is a contagious illness which is caused by a very tiny itch mite. It may spread via close contact from a person to another.

Merely treating a person in a family and washing of bedding is not adequate.

If a person like you comes to my clinic, I examine other members of the family also (who may be having the same infestation) and prophylactically include them also in therapy.

I tell them to follow the following:-
- all members of the family should use the topical medication at a time
- do not share towel, handkerchief, shawl, blanket etc
- wash cloths in warm water and dry them in sun
- wear cloths only after pressing them with hot iron
- avoid socialisation/ intermingling for 3-4 days.

Apparently it is re-infestation due to poor hygiene measure. No need to worry. It can be completely cured.

You can follow the above mentioned advise and discuss these issues with your doctor.

Hope it answers your query. I wish you all the best.
