What Causes Blocked Nose And Headaches?

Hi, i've had a blocked nose, (mucus) for almost 3 weeks now, and recently, about a week and half ago, i've developed these terrible headaches. The first time i experienced this headache it was at night, and my mouth was dry, so i thought it was dehidration, what could be the problem??

Hello,

Thank you for asking at HCM.

I went through your history and would like to make following suggestions:

1. Blocked nose causes obstruction to sinus openings, which causes headaches.

Hence cause of headaches may be blocked nose.

2. However, there are many causes of blocked nose. Common is sinusitis, which may be due to infection or allergies.

3. Were I treating you, I would suggest you an antihistamine like levocetirizine and decongestant nose drops for 3 days. If improvement, I would suggest you to continue levocetirizine for 2 weeks.

4. In addition to above, I would also suggest you daily steam inhalation which will help open nose.

5. If above measures do not help, I would suggest you to consult an ENT surgeon who will examine nose from inside and may identify some structural defects like deviated nose septum, etc.

Hope above suggestions will be helpful to you.

Should you have any further query, please feel free to ask at HCM.

Wish you the best of the health ahead.

Thank you & Regards.
