What Causes Blood Count Levels To Drop Despite Being On Warfarin?

Approximately one year ago I was diagnosed with A-Fib and put on Warafrin. My blood count has been steady at 2.1 for several months however two weeks ago it was 1.6 and this last week 1.3. I am not sure why it has dropped so much. I am not happy being on Warafrin because of all the restrictions such as not being able to eat food that contains Vitamin K and having to go for blood tests all the time. Can you recommend another medication that would be more suitable for me to take? Also any ideas why my count has dropped so much and if I need to be concerned with the drop? Thank you. Sorry I didn t realize I would have to pay to get an answer!

Hi There

I have gone through the details provided by you, i would like to repeat and ECG for you to confirm wheter you your heart is still in AF or not. If AF is persisting i would like to ask whether or not you are taking your warfin tab on tine and regularly as advised? If you are regular with them i would like to do one liver function test to rule out any dysfunction as liver derangement also affects INR levels.
Now coming the your query for switching to some other meds insstead of Warfarin. Yes you can but before that you need to be sure that whether your AF is due to some valvular disease or not. If heart valves are alright (esp. no Mitral Stenosis) you can switch to DABIGATRAN which is a newer anticoagulant and it gives patient freedom from repeating INR and also relieve dietary restictions, BUT before that i suggest to consult your treating doctor and discuss your options.

And dont worry you still get your answers on HCM even if you dont pay. Thats the beauty.

Good Luck
