What Causes Blood In Stool After Treated For Ulcerative Colitis?

hello i have ulcerative colitis since two years . i was in remission but since a week i am having blood in my stool . My stool formation is normal and there is no urgency of washroom . i am having one stool in a day which is normal too . I have done the blood test and it is not showing any inflammation. So is it a flare up? my Doctor has told to start steriods and i am taking 2400 mg mesalamine / day now and 30 mg corticosteriods/day. Is that ok ?

Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist. Blood in the stool with all blood tests normal with no infection suggest flare. You are being appropriately treated by your doctor as in flare steroids are required to control after which steroids can be tapered and stooped. I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health. If you have further query I will like to answer that too.
