Hi, my son has been bleeding every time he goes for a poo, it's getting increasingly worse and it's beeen going on for about 4 months. He had worms about 2 months ago and has been treeted several times and recently a few days ago. He is so sore he is now very constapated which is exaspertaing the problem. The doctors i have seen won't take a look and keep perscribing worm meds. It's now quite a lot od blood and there a lot of cuts in his anus. Is there anything more i can do for him as well as going back to my GP again?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Worms are just one of possible causes and before treating it it should be proved by stool analysis so I would not be antiparasitic medications blindly. However, in most cases, causes of abdominal pain and bleeding through rectum are benign and include hemorrhoids, anal fissure or rectal polyps. These are primarily treated with stool softener, diet and sitzbaths. If there is no improvement in next few weeks, then surgical management should be considered. Other causes may be more serious and include tumors or inflammatory bowel diseases and these should be ruled out with colonoscopy which must be done if there is low blood count present or rapid weight loss. Otherwise, you can see if conservative therapy will help that I have recommended and consult proctologist if necessary
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
