Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my 90 y/o Father, has been recently diadnosed with BPH. At his PCP s office today. Urine the color of coffee. Urine had alot of blood in it, and white cells this time. Hes been put on Cipro BID. My question is he his wheezing badly. He quit smoking over 30 years ago. Hes on xopenex treatments. QID, 10 mgs prednisone OD, mucinex and symbicort. Can these two issues be related?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. It is possible, both are unrelated. 2. Increased possibility of infection present due to BPH. Along with it prednisone could possibly increase the risk of infection. 3. Continue antibiotics and complete the dose. After completion, get a urine examination to confirm absence of WBC. 4. He is suffering COPD and will require continued treatment, particularly during winter season, where it will be exacerbated. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
