Yes my uncle is 78 years old. several weeks ago he had spots of urine and went to his primary care physician. Dr. indicated he had a urinary tract infection prescribed some medication and it went away. He went to the bathroom approximately 20 minutes ago he had an urge to use the bathroom and instead of urinating he urinated blood. He indicates he has chills. Does he need to go to the emergency room or should he wait to see his Dr tomorrow. Please advise
I read carefully your uncle's concerns history. Blood in urine and chills indicate a complicated UTI (urinary tract infection). But there are several medical issues that can cause blood in urine starting from the bladder and up to the kidneys, so your uncle have to go through some test and examinations including kidneys ultrasound to find out the real problem of these concerns. If it's just an infection he must take antibiotics, if there is anything else that causes the bleeding other procedures must be taken. Go to the ER if bleeding continues seriously.
Take care and best regards! Dr Eriol.
