Doctors found microscopic blood in my urine but said that they did not see any other signs of infection in my kidneys or bladder. They also took blood and xrays to look for kidney stones but found no signs. After giving me antibiotics for just in case they retested my urine and still found blood in my urine. Should I be worried that they still do not know the cause?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. A stone which has passed, could have injured the mucosa, which continues to bleed for some time could be the cause of hematuria at present. 2. Good to know, that there is no stones, or pus cells. Get an ultrasound of abdomen, to look for any mass in kidney, ureter or bladder. 3. If no mass, tumors are ruled out and a biopsy may be helpful. Need evaluation for autoimmune disorders. If hematuria persists for more than a week, ultrasound along with kidney biopsy will be necessary. Also check hemoglobin levels and get reticulocyte count to rule out any hemolytic anemias. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
