What Causes Blood In Urine?
hi sir , recently i have urine infection on 1st day i saw blood in urine and worried , rushed to doctor she said it was urine infection and gave some antibiotics... and now i dont have pain in lower abdomin or blood , its normal. my urine test reports show pus cell 6-8hpf and epithelial cells 4-6 hpf and no r.b.c, specific gravity 1.025, reaction acidic, protine +, sugar nill, and mys suggested medicines citralka syrup, urispas, niftas sr.. is it normal to have blood in urine during infections ?

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Blood in urine or Hematuria is the presence of red blood cells (erythrocytes) in the urine.
Normally up to 3 RBC /mm3 may be seen in uncentrifuged urine sample or up to 1 RBC/ HPF(high power field) in a centrifuged urine sample. RBCs present in excess of the above number indicate hematuria.
Hematuria can be either of these two:
Microscopic hematuria (small amounts of blood, can be seen only on urinalysis or light microscopy)
Macroscopic hematuria (or "frank" or "gross" hematuria)..When a large amount of blood is present in the urine, this is obvious to the naked eye.
If white blood cells are also found in addition to red blood cells, then it is a signal of urinary tract infection (UTI).
You have recovered from UTI with Niftas ( Nitrofurantoin) a urinary antibacterial agent and hence your repeat urine analysis shows absence of rbcs and pus cells nearly normal (If the number of WBCs/pus cells in centrifuged mid-stream urine in both men and women is > 5 WBCs/HPF, it is abnormal).
